Backed by strong performances on the mound, timely hitting, and incredible defense, Westfield White moved to 3-0 in USABL Spring League play.
The offense was led by Liam, who collected three hits and drove in three runs. Jack, Graham, Nico, Niko, Bo, and Henry also tallied RBI hits. Lucas and Troy led the way with two runs scored each.
The scoring started early as Lucas led off with a single and eventually scored on an RBI single up the middle by Liam. With two outs, Jack roped a double down the left field line to plate Liam and Graham followed suit with his own RBI single to right field.
In the second inning, Troy led off with a single and immediately scored on Nico’s hit. The game was then blown open when Liam doubled with the bases loaded, bringing the score to 6-0. Westfield White tacked on two more runs via hits from Henry and Niko, bringing the final tally to 8-0.
Westfield White also received strong performances on the mound, as Lucas, Henry, Niko, and Liam combined to pitch a shutout over five innings.
But, the highlights of the day had to be on the defensive side of the ball. In the first, Lucas made a terrific play getting off the mound to throw a runner out at first and Liam made a great running play at shortstop. In the third inning, Grayson made two spectacular plays at third base, charging hard and then making accurate throws to first to just get the runners. Jack played a terrific game at first base as well as catching. The game ended when Liam made a heads up throw to Bo at home.
The Game MVP went to Grayson for his excellent defensive plays, and the Heart and Hustle Award was given to Jack based on his overall performance.
Up next, Westfield White faces a tough challenge against the Mountainside Huskies on Mother’s Day.
