On Mother’s Day, and in front of a packed crowd, Westfield White held on to secure a 14-12 victory over the Mountainside Huskies.

Westfield White’s bats were alive early as the team jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first. With two outs in the bottom of the first, Bo drove a hard double down the leftfield line to drive in two runs. In the second inning, Noah scored on a single by Lucas, which is when the flood gates opened. Westfield White went on to score an additional seven runs in the inning, highlighted by a booming double off the bat of cleanup hitter Grayson. Troy also drove in a run with a single to center in the inning.

The scoring continued for Westfield White in the third inning, as they built an eight-run lead. However, Mountainside stormed back to make the game closer. In the top of the sixth, Mountainside continued to rally, and was down only two runs with the bases loaded. Luckily, closer Henry came on to nail down the victory, making an acrobatic catch on the mound to end the game.

Nico hurled three innings on the mound, giving up only two earned runs. His stellar effort was followed by Troy, who pitched 2.2 innings of great baseball. Henry got the save.

The offensive chart was led by Liam, Lucas, Bo, Nico, and Noah, all of whom tallied multiple hits.

For his effort offensively and on the mound, Nico received the MVP award. For his great efforts behind the plate and his booming two-run double, Bo received the game’s Heart and Hustle Award.

With this victory, Westfield White moved to 4-0 in the USABL. On tap next is a rivalry matchup against Ridge Black in Basking Ridge. Ridge Black knocked Westfield White out of the NPGL playoffs last season, despite Westfield White having been the higher seed.
